The people behind the homework
Five clinicians, one way of working.
Tara Towler-Cumby founded Towler Counseling in 2010, and her clients know her as the homework therapist. The name stuck to the whole practice: we’re the homework therapists because real change happens between sessions.
We believe in going beyond regular talk therapy. You leave the room with something small to practice, and the next session starts from what happened when you tried it.

Tara Towler-Cumby
MA, NBCC, LPC, CPCS, CMAC, CCTP, TF-CBT Certified. CBT & IFS Therapist, Practice Owner.
The founder
Started in 2010, still seeing clients.
Tara founded Towler Counseling in 2010 and has more than twenty years of experience with substance use, depression, anxiety, trauma, postpartum and life changes. Her clients know her as the homework therapist.
She specialises in women: life transitions, motherhood, postpartum depression, anxiety, PTSD, trauma, infertility, pregnancy loss and termination. She is a mother of two and has personally experienced infertility.
Tara holds an MA in Professional Counseling from Argosy University. As a Certified Professional Counselor Supervisor she runs APC group supervision on Mondays at 11:00 AM or 3:00 PM, $65 per group session.
Tara supervises the associates and intern in the practice, so the homework approach runs through every room. Her rate is $225 to $250 per session.
Who you could be talking to
The clinician ledger.
Fees are set by each clinician, and a sliding scale is available for qualifying clients. Lily, our administrator, matches you with a therapist alongside Tara, so you do not have to choose from a list on your own.
Laura Mallard, LPC, NCC is no longer accepting new clients.
