Depression

Depression Therapy in Roswell and Online

Find support for low mood, disconnection, and loss of motivation as you work toward meaningful changes at your own pace.

When everything takes more effort than it should

Depression is not always sadness. Often it is a flat, gray low mood, a sense of being disconnected from people you love, or a loss of motivation that turns an email or a shower into a negotiation. Some people keep working, parenting and showing up while feeling hollow, which makes it easy for everyone around them to miss. If you recognize yourself in that description, it deserves care, not another push to try harder.

Depression can look different from person to person, and from one season of life to the next. It may follow a loss, a birth, a move, or nothing you can point to. Our clinicians see teens and adults with depression, and Tara Towler-Cumby has worked with it for more than twenty years, including postpartum depression. Call (770) 800-7362 and we will help you find the right fit.

CBT and DBT, with change at a pace you set

CBT looks at the link between what you think, what you feel and what you do. When mood drops, thinking often turns harsh and absolute, and behavior shrinks to match. Together with your therapist you test those thoughts and rebuild small, doable activity, because action often comes before motivation, not after. DBT adds skills for sitting with painful emotion, getting through distress, and staying steadier with the people around you.

None of this is rushed. You work toward meaningful changes at your own pace, and the first sessions are partly about understanding what depression is costing you. John McCord, Carson Schefstad and Tara all see clients with depression, and Grace Cox, our clinical intern, works with teens and young adults. Lily and Tara match you with the clinician whose style suits you.

What a week of homework actually looks like

Homework here is small on purpose. It might be one walk, one text to a friend, a short mood log, or a note about the moment your thinking turned on you. We ask for what is realistic in a heavy week, not what looks impressive. The next session starts from what you noticed, which keeps the work tied to your actual life and makes progress visible, even on days when it does not feel like any.

Sessions run 45 to 60 minutes, weekly or every other week, in person at 425 East Crossville Road near downtown Roswell or by secure video across Georgia. A free 15-minute consultation comes first, and next-day appointments are often available. We are out of network with most plans, provide superbills for reimbursement, offer a sliding scale for qualifying clients, and some therapists accept BCBS.
