Couples Counseling in Roswell and Online

Work toward clearer communication, greater understanding, and a stronger connection with your partner.

When you are living together but feel far apart

Most couples do not come in because of one big fight. They come because the conversations have gotten smaller, the same argument keeps coming back, or one of you has gone quiet and the other has stopped asking. Emotional distance builds slowly, and it is easy to mistake it for the end of the relationship when it is often a pattern that can change.

Couples counseling here aims at three things: clearer communication, greater understanding of each other, and a stronger connection. It is also for people who are not yet in crisis, including engaged couples preparing for marriage, and Carson Schefstad is a Certified Premarital Counselor. Call (770) 800-7362 and Lily and Tara will help you choose who to see, based on what the two of you are dealing with.

The Gottman Method and Emotionally Focused Therapy

We work from two established methods. The Gottman Method looks closely at how you handle conflict, build friendship and share meaning, and it gives you concrete skills to practice. Carson Schefstad is a Gottman Specialist, John McCord has completed Gottman Level 1 and sees couples in person or virtually, and Paul Burkhalter works from both Gottman and EFT.

Emotionally Focused Therapy, or EFT, goes underneath the argument to the needs and fears driving it, such as the wish to know that you matter to your partner. It typically runs 8 to 20 sessions. Paul Burkhalter has more than ten years of experience with couples and family dynamics and is accepting new couples. Which method fits depends on the two of you, and the free consultation call is a good place to sort that out before you book.

Sessions, practicalities, and what couples pay

Couples sessions can run up to an hour and a half, usually weekly or every other week. Between sessions you get something small to practice together, like a structured conversation or a daily check-in, because real change happens between sessions. Meet at 425 East Crossville Road near downtown Roswell, or by secure video from anywhere in Georgia, whichever is easier for your two schedules to share.

Couples therapists do not accept insurance, and we provide invoices for every session. Paul Burkhalter's couples rate is $200 to $250 per session, and the other clinicians' rates are available when you call (770) 800-7362. A free 15-minute consultation comes first, so you can ask about fit and cost before booking, and next-day appointments are often available.
