Affirming LGBTQ+ therapy in Roswell and across Georgia

Find affirming support that respects your identity, relationships, experiences, and individual goals.

Support that starts from who you are, not who you were expected to be

Some people come to therapy to talk about coming out: when to do it, who to tell first, what to do if a family member reacts badly. Many others come for anxiety, low mood, a hard relationship or a big life change, and want a therapist who will not make their identity the whole conversation or an awkward detour. Towler Counseling in Roswell offers affirming support that respects your identity, your relationships, your experiences and your own goals.

The practice describes its mission as a supportive, compassionate and inclusive setting where individuals, couples and families feel heard, seen and empowered. Its care is trauma-informed, which matters if past rejection, bullying or an unsafe home is part of your story. You decide what to bring in and how quickly.

John McCord and the methods behind affirming care

John McCord is an LGBT+ male therapist who sees teens and adults for anxiety, depression, life transitions and addiction-related concerns. He works from person-centered therapy, CBT and IFS. Person-centered work means you set the agenda and he follows your lead. CBT looks at the thoughts that feed worry and shame so you can test them against what is actually true. IFS helps you listen to the parts of you that learned to hide.

The practice also draws on DBT skills for intense emotion, such as steadying yourself in the moment after a painful comment or a tense family dinner. John has completed Gottman Level 1 training and sees couples in person or virtually. Every clinician here, not only John, practices inside the same affirming, inclusive setting. If you would like a particular match, say so on the free 15-minute call.

Between sessions, near downtown Roswell or from home

The practice calls itself the homework therapists because real change happens between sessions. Your assignment might be rehearsing a conversation you have been dreading, noticing when stress spikes around certain people, or practicing a DBT skill before the next family event. Sessions last 45 to 60 minutes, weekly or every other week, and next-day appointments are often available. To begin, call (770) 800-7362 and book the free 15-minute consultation.

Meet in person at 425 East Crossville Road, in the brick building near downtown Roswell, or by secure video from anywhere in Georgia. Video can be the safer choice when privacy at home or travel time is a concern. The practice is out of network with most insurance plans and provides superbills for reimbursement. A sliding scale is available for qualifying clients, and some therapists accept BCBS.
