Trauma Therapy in Roswell and Online

Work through trauma and PTSD in a supportive setting that respects your comfort, boundaries, and readiness.

Trauma and PTSD are not only about the biggest events

Trauma can follow a single event, a long stretch of stress, or a sudden change that turned your life sideways. It can live on as PTSD, with flashbacks and a body that never fully stands down, or quietly, as a startle response, avoidance or numbness you have stopped noticing. Many people also carry smaller hurts that add up. You do not have to rank your experience against anyone else's to deserve support.

Trauma-informed care means the room is built around your comfort, boundaries and readiness. You decide what to share and when, and no one pushes you toward details before you are ready. Our clinicians work this way in Roswell and online, and the free 15-minute consultation, reachable at (770) 800-7362, is a low-stakes way to ask how it works before you commit to anything.

Trauma-informed care, TF-CBT, and who offers what

Our approach is trauma-informed from the first phone call, and it draws on CBT and IFS. Tara Towler-Cumby is a CCTP and TF-CBT certified, with more than twenty years of experience that includes trauma and PTSD. Carson Schefstad also sees clients for trauma, along with grief and life transitions, and brings experience with military families and with children in medical settings.

TF-CBT, Trauma-Focused Cognitive Behavioral Therapy, is the structured option for children and adolescents. It brings caregivers into the work and typically runs 8 to 25 sessions. For adults, the work is paced around what you can hold in a given week. IFS can help when a protective part of you takes over, and CBT gives practical ways to work with intrusive thoughts and avoidance.

Setting the pace, and what the early sessions are for

The first sessions are not about telling the whole story. They are for getting to know your therapist, naming what you want to change, and learning a few grounding skills so that hard material has somewhere safe to land. You set the pace, and slowing down is always an option. Between sessions you practice those skills in small ways, which is what our homework approach is for.

You can meet in person at 425 East Crossville Road near downtown Roswell, or by secure video from anywhere in Georgia, whichever feels safer. Sessions run 45 to 60 minutes, weekly or every other week, and next-day appointments are often available. We are out of network with most plans and provide superbills, a sliding scale is available for qualifying clients, and some therapists accept BCBS.
